July / August  - Toronto / Bronte

By mid July the king schools move off Toronto’s waterfront and provide some of the best fishing of the season. Schools of active feeding king salmon gorge themselves on the abundant forage that sets up along the “Drop” This drop-off  runs almost the entire length of the city has produced hundreds of derby winning salmon over the years.

 

By Mid August our focus is often back at Bronte Harbour where the largest salmon ever was caught in the salmon hunt. The king weighed in over 46 lbs and during a two week stretch Bronte produced consistently winning salmon over 35lbs. Bronte is the port to be in August for that “wall hanger”

 

September Toronto, Lake Ontario

Deep water steelhead action is fast and furious! School after school of steelhead (rainbow) start moving inshore for their annual spawning run. Average size is 6 to 12 lbs with several lunkers recorded every week.

The favorite time of year for those who love to see surface battling steelhead!
